Happy Egg Day!

What a great day this was! I got to sleep in, and Abby convinced me to stay in my nice cozy bed for a while after I was awake. It was a great way to start the day, and as I got up and moving Mom told me about how she had been doing some collective thinking with others about why in the world my chickens have yet to lay eggs. The conclusion that was arrived at was that the heat lamp I've put in their coop to make sure they don't get cold at night was messing with their little chicken brains - it was always daytime in their world as the light never went out! So that's going to be changing in the nex 24 hours, as I will now be unplugging their lamp when I go to sleep and plugging it in when I get up in the mornings so their little chicken brains will think it's spring and not late November! Oh, and so I went out after I had breakfast to refill food and water for my flock and guess what? Give up? Okay, I'll tell you! In the nest box to the far right of the door was a beautiful, perfect, small brown speckled egg (but not bantam small)! It made me soooo happy!! And, I think it was from my Buff Brahma hen, Amelia, as she was very full of herself and quite chatty yesterday, which is supposedly signs of egg laying. If this theory is true, then I should have an egg from Marley, my Buff Orpington, tomorrow, as she was very noisy today! I'll let you know, and I will also be enjoying a beautiful speckled brown egg for breakfast tomorrow!
